Castle Burner, the second full length from Berlin’s mysterious Üngtt project, creates a suffocating world of deteriorating sound textures that are both beautiful and brutal in their unfolding. Friends of Cyclic Law will know the name B.S.s. as the spirit behind such projects as Common Eider King Eider, Curse All Kings and long time collaborator of Sutekh Hexen and Six Organs of Admittance. With Castle Burner, the shadows lengthen, the soil cools, and the smell of decomposition fills the air.
Lying somewhere within the intersection of black ambience, dungeon synth and black metal, Castle Burner holds the listener hostage within a prison of oppressive haze. Melancholic memories haunt and torment while shadows of intention expand and contract. Yet despite this heaviness, there is a beauty found here that holds and protects. This is not an exercise in misanthropic posturing, but a methodical study of animistic nature expressed within death, decay and rebirth.
All hail the Circle of the Rotting Forest Floor as it ushers forth new life!
