WAVEFORM
TRANSMISSION "v1.0-1.9" CD
(cd200613) Silentes
Extraordinary vintage soundscapes. Nocturnal drone music created with
a sprawling array of tape-loops, analog effects, modular synthesizers,
1980's samplers, alien shortwave radios, and field recordings made
during peak-periods of paranormal activity. Recorded in 1995 by ROD
MODELL (two years prior to starting DEEPCHORD), and CHRIS TROY. This
cd is a recording of a live on-air broadcast. Analog sound quality
(sadly missing from today's barrage of releases made with laptops/software).
These sounds take on a majestic beauty and magic with repeated listens.
Originally issued by Kim Cascone in 1996, now re-issued 10 years later.

WEIHAN
"Symphonies Of Divination" CD
(oecd103) Old Europa Cafe
“Symphonies of Divination” is the sophomore album of this
very promising project from the medieval lands bordering the cold
North Sea, Flanders (North-Belgium). Dramatically straying from the
neo-folk path of their debut album “Galder”, “Symphonies
of Divination” offers dark and bombastic compositions with clear
references to Slavonic, German and Scandinavian classical music. Heavy
percussion, assiduous spiccato string sections, dramatic horn accents
and haunting choirs form the backbone of this album. The cold and
eerie narrative vocals enhance the grim atmosphere of the music even
further. The lyrics, mainly in English but with hints of Dutch, Old-Norse
and Swedish, are devoted to Indo-Germanic religion, myth and legend,
the Nietzschean spirit and relentlessly attest to the grotesque decline
of the modern world. The album will be released as a limited edition
digipack of 540 copies; each album thus representing a gate to the
Hall of the Slain, Valhalla. The concept as a whole is a key to higher
cosmological understanding; let the 432.000th year of Kali Yuga begin
with “Symphonies of Divination”! The cycle continues as
a new world arises out of the shed blood of the old…Ellegant
digipack plus large booklet!

WERMUT
"Anna" CD
(pp012) Punch Records
The third album of post-apocalyptic minimal electro twosome WERMUT
tells the story of Anna, a wooden Colin Archer yacht, which was build
in the late 70s by Reiner and Petra, out of the desperate need to
seek beyond their horizons. The cherished boat would lead them on
a magic three-year-long journey to Scandinavia, Ireland, over the
Atlantic and back. A tale of passion, of revelation, of freedom …but
also of loneliness and introspection. WERMUT and their guest musicians
HIS DIVINE GRACE and FRL. TOST give us the soundtrack to this outer
and inner quest. A soothing mixture of acoustic music, electro-wave
anthems and “fall on your knees”-ambient, this much awaited
first CD combines magnificently both the folk and retro-electro influences
of “Les cinq-à-sept post-néoistes” (OEC)
and “Hoffnung” (Treue um Treue). A conceptual, melancholic
and visionary new album from a band which defies all labelling.

WERKRAUM
"Kristalle" CD
(Ahnstern17) Ahnstern
The new mini-album of WERKRAUM is not only
fascinating because of it's gracile perfection in composition and
musical virtuosity, but also through it's musical diversity, supportet
by Nicholas Tesluk and Robert Taylor (CHANGES), by Nick Nedzinsky
(LADY MORPHIA) and by Antje Hoppenrath. Fulfilled with traditional
melodies and psychedelic moments, WERKRAUM guides the listener in
a magical world of acoustic sounds and picturesque poetry, telling
from ancient fairiedays. The 6 beautiful Folk-songs, 32 minutes.

WINTERKALTE
"First Album" CD
(HandsD100) Hands Productions
This is the re-release of the first and self-titled
Winterkälte LP album, originally recorded in 1995 and digitally
remasterd in 2006. This album was a pioneering work for today's rhythm'n'noise
genre. Be prepared for some of Winterkälte's hardest rhythmical
material. The first album was released in January 1996 on vinyl and
in a striclty limited edition of 500 copies only. As such, the album
was very hard to find even in its year of release and has become a
highly searched for collector's item since.

WINTERKALTE
"Drum 'N' Noise" CD
(HandsD013) Hands Productions
Winterkälte are one of the true leaders
of the power electronics movement, a genre that has grown exponentially
in recent years. The material on Drum 'N' Noise is brutal and rhythmic,
yet never static. The songs have a real flow to them, twisting and
turning in unexpected directions, never becoming dull. This is a somewhat
rare trait for bands of this type and one that I appreciate a great
deal. The songs on Drum 'N' Noise offer quite a bit of variety. Opening
with the frantic "Rebound," the album segues into the oddly
danceable "Effect vs. Sustainability" and the chaotic "Structure
04." "Tropical Timber Trade" includes what almost sounds
like severely tortured guitar noodling at a couple points, while "The
Fate of the Sea" is a dark, brooding eleven-minute piece that
covers a lot of ground. And if that wasn't enough, the twenty-minute
"Do Not Vote For Industry!" is just plain overwhelming.
While this track certainly has some key moments, it is on the brink
of collapsing under its own weight. "Global Deforestation"
sets things right again with a speedy assault on the sense to close
out the proceedings. If you are prepared for a musical experience
sans conventional structure and melody, I highly recommend this album.
The finesse and subtlety of the attack is spectacular. [Daniel Hinds]

WINTERSILENCE
"Transmission Field" 2CD
(wax10) Amplexus
A surprising and ambitious trip from ambient
to cosmic paths. This work has various influences, but all titles
have something in common, they all seem to run after to an evocative
attitude. Mysterious vocals, acoustic sounds, epic musical structures
with Nordic sensations. Rhythms and melodies cross themselves in a
mixture of savage screams, primitive emotions and futuristic effects.
A really beautiful piece of work encased in a lush double-digipak
which really does this release justice. Ltd x 1000

WOK
"Annihilation" CDR
(cccdr015) Cold Current
This album is inspired directly from the greatness
of mongolian herdsmen families, wich still remember the meaning of
the word "life" ; graze, desert and extreme low temperature
are for strong people only who accept to recognize that we are a grain
of sand in the infinity of the plains, and that change this state
of life is to speak agaist God. It's very hard to give a description
of Wok's sound because is a very original mix of different state of
mind and sounds, from inmost, wonderful melodies to deep ambient drone.
Definitively, for me Wok is the honest sound of heart. Don't miss
it !

WOLFSKIN
"O Ajuntar Das Sombras" CD
(tumorcd22) Malignant
Finally, after years of delay, O Ajuntar das
Sombras by Wolfskin is finally unleashed. Initally intended to be
a re-issue of 2001?s very limited The Gather of Shadows by the Setting
Sun CDr (Ajna), it eventually evolved into a re-working of three tracks
from that release, complimented by 7 newly recorded tracks. As the
Wolfskin era comes to end , this release represents a glimpse into
their past?a more organic, flowing ambient record than what you may
find today, and perhaps the least conceptual of all their releases.
That being said, it most certainly will go down as one of their more
stunning, darker visions; a masterpiece of shadowy atmospheres and
drifting currents, featuring multiple layers of archaic sounds, foggy,
nebulous textures, and ritual invocations, perfectly combined to form
a release of intense depth and complexity.Must certainly rank among
the finest dark ambient records released in the history of Malignant.
In elegant 4 panel digipak.

WOLFSKIN
feat. OBJEKT 4 "The Hidden Fortress: A revissitation" CD
(nrp10) Neuropa
Wolfskin is one of Europe's finest and most
original ritual ambient acts. Over the years they, along with their
partners of Forgotten Blood, are surely responsable for putting Portugal
on the dark-ambient map. 'The Hidden Fortress' is both their first
and last output: originally released as a cassette tape back in 1995,
Johan Aernus decided to close the Wolfskin circle with a remastered
and partially re-recorded edition of that same record. On his last
journey to the hidden fortress, he took a companion with him: Swedish
audio-genius Objekt4 gave the whole record a new life & dynamic.
This record was years in the making, no risks were taken to prevent
this from becoming a worthy testament for one of the most exciting
dark-ambient acts Europe has known.

WULGATA
"Echoes Of The Past...Not Far Away" CD
(bop) Beast of prey
Wulgata is a Polish musical project, who for
the past few years has been creating dark ambient and industrial sounds
in the quiet spots of Silesia. "Echoes of the past...not far
away" is a compilation of what is best in Wulgata. This is a
'deceitful' album - on one hand announcing the coming of a mortal
threat, and on the other, a reflection of some inner strength, that
tries to break free and whispers to calm the spirit. 55 minutes of
grim dark ambient sounds with rhythmical and industrial elements.
Presented in a foldout package with insert and finished with a wax
seal. Hand-numbered edition of 444 copies.
