Tapio Kotkavuori is a Magister of the Temple of Set and he has an
essential role in the practises and information sharing of northern
magical context. He is also the author of two books on the subject
of Left Hand Path. Terra Hyperborea contains a selection of Kotkavuori's
sound-magical Workings recorded in 2001CE. At the time, recordings
were made under the project name Vaskikäärme. These recordings
have now been remastered and are publicly available in CD-format for
the first time. The album contains also a high-resolution version
of the Underground Tunnels-video. Musically artist himself describes
Terra Hyperborea as "post-apocalyptic dark-ethno-ambient".
Its semi-organic, semi-electric soundspheres are trance inducing,
almost hypnotic, varying from soft mood adjustments to more focused
incantations and chants. Kotkavuori's main weapon of choice in this
battle against silence is didgeridoo, but tons of other instruments
- such as vocals, rainstick, shaman drum, coffee maker, synthesizer,
kitchen knives etc. - have been utilized as well. All in all, these
recordings create a shamanistic ambiance with a dark twist characteristic
to the Left Hand Path. They provide an inspiring background for mundane
as well as Other Kind of activities. To some, this record offers an
unique peek to the world of Black Magic. To others, it offers a lot
more.

by the [law-rah] collective since the release of 'incarnation' in
2001. the emotionally triggered droning soundscapes, which are the
collective's trademark, have the power of confronting the listener
with his or her deepest inner fears. the 44 minute track, built from
drones, ambient noise and extreme frequency modulations, was created
for and performed at the new forms festival in the hague, netherlands
on june 7th 2002. the performance was (and still is) a collaboration
between the [law-rah] collective (music) and juxtapose (choreography
and dance). to underline the collaborative effort, a 12 minute video
is included on the cd which holds outtakes of the actual performance.
the video was shot with four camera's and produced by videopunx in
amsterdam.

adornment. Symphonic fire, industrial poison, and gothic beauty entertwine
to create something positively addictive. The opening track, Somniferum,
begins with a forewarning cast by the mad street preacher..."novice
to this mystery, heed my warning from the start..." The warning
is just, as the album's subject, the opium poppy, is as cruel as it
is beautiful. And so is the music on SOMNIFERUM. From Middle Eastern
rythyms that conjure the flower from the ground, to the serenity of
an opium high, the title track culminates in a bombastic ending of
industrial poison that recreates wicked flower's hold. The ensuing
tracks continue to elaborate on the theme as addiction becomes inevitable.
Johann BC uses a variety of voices to capture the mood of each piece.
The songs have immediate attractions and hold the listener over with
well planned keyboard and guitar phrases. And the drums and bass drive
the listener headlong down the twisted opium trail.

There is a big gap between “rational”, verbal language
and the pre-symbolic language of our emotional and unconscious mind.
Music is perceived partly with our conscious mind, who can analyze
it and reflect on it. On another part, it is perceived by our unconsciousness,
by our “primal consciousness” that lies “under”
the rational mind.
The idea: Experimental music, especially that of a more droning character,
can easier “get in touch” or be unconsciously connected
with this primal state of mind. It is music that is linked with unconscious
fantasies coming from a pre-verbal sphere of existence... the phase
of life based on the dyadic interaction with the “primal object”,
the mother.
At this early stage, there’s no awareness existing of being
a full separated Subject, and no other full separated Objects can
